KENAI (AP) -- A barge taking on diesel fuel in North Kenai had to unload its cargo Tuesday morning after a sheen was spotted near the vessel, according to the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation.
The Chilkat Warrior had 378,000 gallons in its tanks when the sheen formed just before 9 a.m., the DEC reported. Absorbent boom was laid around the sheen as the fuel was unloaded from the barge.
The sheen began near the starboard No 2. tank, which had been repaired in Ketchikan after it spilled jet fuel from a fracture May 8, DEC reported.
The Chilkat Warrior is owned by Yutana Barge Lines.
