Regarding Pamela Parson’s letter and her dogs being shot (Clarion, May 23), my understanding of the dog laws was that the dog had to actually be “a threat to life or property” in order to justify shooting it, which your dogs were not.
I know that family quite well and am absolutely appalled at the version of events that I heard.
Their 7-year-old son was the one that pulled the trigger, or so he says. Their 4-year-old watched it, and the mother just took a shower because she “didn’t want to deal with it.”
Their property is by no means large enough to fire a gun on just on an acre and there are houses on most of the lots in the neighborhood.
Perhaps had the troopers known it was a child handling the gun or actually saw how dangerous it is to shoot on that small of a parcel they would have responded differently.
My sympathy goes to you for the loss of your dogs.
