Drag racing set to thunder Nikiski

The Fronna Snelson Memorial Alaska Hot Rod Reunion will be Saturday and Sunday at McGahan Industrial Airport in Nikiski and will feature a jet dragster from Seattle capable of doing 300 miles per hour.

The racing, which will be done over one-eighth of a mile, will include dragsters, altereds, bracket cars, bikes, car clubs and much more.

Saturday, the gates will open and there will be a show and shine at noon, followed by racing at 6 p.m.

Sunday, gates will open at 9 a.m., time trials will be at 11 a.m. and races will be at 2 p.m.

Also, a number of people will be inducted into the Alaska Hot Rod Reunion Hall of Fame. The inductees will be Dave McKay, Squeeks O'Conner, Dave Velaeca, Dean Geisert, Jay Hunnison and Jim Harrick.

Admission will be $5 and those 12 and under will get in free. For more information, contact Performance Promotions at 566-2346.

Twins open season with doubleheader today

The American Legion Post 20 Twins will open their season with a doubleheader today at Coral Seymour Memorial Park against the South Peninsula Storm. The two seven-inning games will start at 12:30 p.m.
