Clown's wife leads on-the-road Bible study for circus performers

Posted: Friday, May 31, 2002

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- As part of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus troupe, Jenny Nock has no regular church to attend. So for the past year she has run non-denominational Bible studies each Friday for clowns, trapeze artists, animal handlers and concession workers.

''It's like any walk of life. You need support,'' said Nock, the wife and manager of clown Bello Nock.

''We were on the road 49 weeks last year. We go to 45 to 50 cities a year,'' she noted, so special religious arrangements are needed.

''The Bible study is definitely a call,'' she said. ''We all have a ministry in our life.''

Jenny also home-schools the couple's three children, using a Christian curriculum.
