ANCHORAGE (AP) -- More than 2 million people have ridden Denali National Park's shuttle bus system.

The 2 millionth visitor rode the park's shuttle buses on Tuesday.

Park Superintendent Stephen Martin said the shuttle system helps reduce traffic congestion in the park. And it helps to protect the park's natural resources and beauty, he said.

Shirley Belz of Michigan was the park's 2 millionth rider. She got a rafting trip donated by Denali Park Resorts and dinner for two at the Park Hotel. All the visitors on the bus got free lunches. Belz also got a wooden plaque to commemorate the event.

The shuttle system was established in 1972 to limit road traffic.
