Small business center to hold computer workshop

The Small Business Development Center is sponsoring a workshop about creating professional Web sites today. The instructor is David Edward Smith of Borealis Designs. The class runs from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Economic Development District, Mile 14.5 of the Kenai Spur Highway. Topics will include target marketing, defining goals, browser capability and search engine placement. The workshop is free. For reservations, call 283-3335.

The fourth annual Brain Awareness Walk will be held Saturday in Kenai. Beginning at 11 a.m. at Kenai Central High School, the walk goes through town and ends at the park strip near the community garden. The walk will be followed by a barbecue. Tour of historic Kasilof cabin scheduled

Catherine Cassidy of the Kasilof Historic Society will lead a guided tour of the Victor Holm cabin Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The cost is $10 per person and $20 for a family. All proceeds go toward restoration and maintenance of this historic site. For more information or to register for the tour, call Kachemak Heritage Land Trust at 260-1999.

Swimmers, divers to hold garage sale

The Kenai Central High School swim and dive team will hold a garage sale Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 204 Norman St. in Kenai. The money earned will be used to complete the electronic scoreboard at the pool. For more information, call 283-8008.

Summer reading program begins Saturday

The Soldotna Public Library is sponsoring a summer reading program titled "Take a Library Safari." The free program is open to readers in kindergarten through sixth grade and runs from Saturday through July 22. Preschoolers and nonreaders are encouraged to join the companion "Read to Me" club that starts June 7.

Swimming lessons available

The Soldotna High School swimming pool is now taking registration for its summer swimming lessons. Classes are held Monday through Friday and cost $30 for a set of 10 lessons. Classes start June 5, 19 and July 3. Because of limited class space, preregistration is recommended. For more information, call 262-7419.

Healthy Communities meeting planned

The Healthy Communities/Healthy People Steering Committee's regular meeting will be held June 8 at Bridges, 145 Kasilof St. in Soldotna, at 1:30 p.m. For more information, call Lisa Parker at 262-1831.
