Be careful out there

Posted: Thursday, June 01, 2006

A story on the front page of Wednesday’s Clarion is a reminder that we’re in summer mode on the peninsula. Boat accidents, guns, fires and all-terrain vehicles mishaps left some battered, bruised and in jail over the Memorial Day weekend.

It’s great to have a good time and enjoy yourself, but it only takes an instant for a good time to turn into a tragedy.

Use common sense. Obey speed limits, guidelines and rules in all activities. If you’ve been drinking, don’t get behind the wheel — of a vehicle or a boat. Wear the right protection — a helmet or seat belt. Be aware of your surroundings — is there heavy traffic or wildlife?

The Kenai Peninsula is a great place to live and visit. Do your part to make the memories of summer 2006 worth remembering; be careful out there.
