Cancer awareness walk planned

Relay for Life of the Central Peninsula will host its annual cancer awareness walk Friday and Saturday at the Skyview High School track. A ceremony to honor cancer survivors will begin at 6 p.m. Friday.

Plant sale set to bloom

The Kenai Peninsula Outdoor Club will sell locally grown perennials to benefit the American Cancer Society on Friday at the Relay for Life at the Skyview High School track. For more information, call 714-4760.

Rowing classes set to stroke

The Alaska Midnight Sun Rowing Club will host learn to row classes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Mackey Lake. Participants are asked to bring a sack lunch, the club will provide a barbecue dinner after each class. The cost is $85 per class. Registration forms are available online at www.alaskarowing.org. Jet boat auction revs up

The Soldotna High School metals shop will auction a jet boat Saturday at S and R Construction site. The boat is an Australian jet riverboat with trailer, motor, anchors and seats. For more information and time of auction, call Doug Gordon or Bill Carlson at 262-7411.

Dandelion hunt set

The second annual Dandelion Sundae will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge on Ski Hill Road. Participants are asked to bring bagged dandelions and digging tools. Each bag of dandelions is worth one free ice cream sundae. The event is a weed awareness work day to help reduce invasive plants into wild land areas. Swim lessons available

The Kenai Central High School pool is taking registrations for its summer swim lessons. Lessons will begin Tuesday. Lessons are offered six times a day Tuesdays through Fridays for eight days. The cost is $32. Private lessons are $10 for 30 minutes for one child or $15 for 30 minutes with two children. For more information or to register, call 283-7476.

Golf tourney fundraiser set

The Birch Ridge Golf Course and the Golf Association will host a Rally for a Cure golf tournament at 2 p.m. June 11 in Soldotna. It will be a nine-hole scramble. The cost is $60. Participants are asked to wear pink colored clothing. Barbecue, awards and prizes will follow the tournament. For more information, call 262-5270 or 262-1560.

Swim team seeks members

The Soldotna Silver Salmon will hold tryouts from 8 to 10 a.m. Monday through Friday beginning June 12 at the Soldotna High School pool. For more information, call Lisa Groleske at 262-2960.
