Garage sale fundraiser has a mission

The Peninsula Grace Brethren youth group will hold a garage sale to raise funds to go to Momentum Youth Conference in Mississippi from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at Mile 19.5 Kalifornsky Beach Road.

Seniors garage sale set

The Nikiski Senior Citizens Center will hold a garage sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the center, one mile off the Kenai Spur Highway on Island Lake Road.

Performers to meet, eat, greet

The Kenai Performers will hold its annual meeting at 6 p.m. today at the Old Town Playhouse in the Malston’s strip mall in Kenai. The event is free and open to the public. A potluck dinner will be held at 6 p.m., followed by entertainment, a presentation about the organization and a discussion on the upcoming season of shows. Soldotna Historical Society to meet

The Soldotna Historical Society will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday at the main museum building on Centennial Park Road. It is open to the public.

Volunteers needed for beautification project

Kenai Parks and Recreation Department is seeking volunteers to help plant the cities flower beds at 10 a.m. Saturday. Participants will meet at the Kenai Fire Department. A barbecue will follow at 1 p.m. For more information, call 283-3692.

Brain awareness walk, barbecue set

The Kenai Peninsula Brain Injury Support Group will host its 11th annual Brain Awareness Walk at 11 a.m. Saturday. Registration begins at 10 a.m. The walk route will begin at Kenai Central High School, through downtown Kenai to the Green Strip Park on Main Street Loop. A barbecue will be held following the walk. Steak dinner fundraiser scheduled

The Sterling Senior Center will hold a steak dinner fundraiser from 6 to 8 p.m. June 8 at the center. Reservations are required. Admission cost are adults $12.50, children ages 3 to 12 $8 and children under 3 are admitted free. For more information or to make a reservation, call 262-6808.

Cowboy up

The Soldotna Equestrian Association’s second event in its Cowboy Round-up Family Series will be held at 1 p.m. June 9 and at 2 p.m. June 10 at the Soldotna Arena and Rodeo Grounds on Kalifornsky Beach in Soldotna. Bull riding, barrel racing, calf riding, team penning, roping and calf scramble are some of the planned events.

Entry registration is by phone from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday only at 260-3862. No late registrations will be accepted.

Kids reading program continues

Kids are invited to join the Triumvirate Bookstore Frequent Reader Program. Upon signing up, kids can pick out one free book, a reading calendar and reading program rules at the bookstore in the Peninsula Center Mall in Soldotna. Bookstore hours are noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Each time a reader returns their initialed calendar to the bookstore, they can pick out another free book and get their calendar punched. For more information, call 953-7262.

Midnight Sun festivities set

North Peninsula Recreation Service Area is accepting booth applications for its annual Family Fun in the Midnight Sun slated for June 16 from noon to 5 p.m. at the NPRSA facilities. Space is available for information, carnival, game and food booths. For more information, call Rachel at 776-8800.

Cheer camp available

North Peninsula Recreation Service Area will hold a cheer camp from 1 to 3:30 p.m. June 20 through 22 at the Nikiski Community Recreation Center. Youths in grades two through six are eligible to attend. Registration forms are available at center and the Nikiski Pool. For more information, call 776-8800.

Annual quilt show a piece of work

Quilting on the Kenai’s 13th annual Quilt Extravaganza Viewer’s Choice Quilt Show will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 21 and 22 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 23 at 46719 Kalifornsky Beach Road in Soldotna. Classes, vendors, demonstrations and more than 100 quilts are some of the planned events and displays.

An Art to Wear fashion show will be held at 7:30 p.m. June 23 at the Challenger Learning Center of Alaska, 9711 Kenai Spur Highway in Kenai. The grand door prize will be a Pfaff sewing machine.

Walk for Hope fundraiser planned

Hope Community Resources will hold its third annual Walk and Roll for Hope, a community fun run, walk or rollerblade event at 10 a.m. July 7 at its office at 43337 Kalifornsky Beach Road. Participants may choose to walk a 4-, 6- or 11-mile route down the bike path and returning to the office. Detailed route information is available on the pledge form.

Shuttle service is available to pick up any participants at any check station along the route. The money raised in our community will benefit Alaskans around the Kenai Peninsula who experience a developmental disability.
