FERC meeting set

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) will hold two public meetings in Moose Pass to discuss Homer Electric Association's (HEA) proposed Grant Lake/Falls Creek hydroelectric project. The FERC scoping meetings are scheduled for Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Moose Pass Community Hall.

The FERC scoping meetings are being held to gather input from the public, non-governmental organizations, resource agencies, and Indian tribes on the scope of the Environmental Assessment (EA) that be conducted as part of the permit application process for the proposed hydro electric project.

Pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969, as amended, Commission staff intends to prepare an Environmental Assessment (EA), which will be used by the Commission to determine whether, and under what conditions, to issue a license for the project. To support and assist the environmental review, FERC is beginning the public scoping process to ensure that all pertinent issues are identified and analyzed and that the EA is thorough and balanced. For more information about the project and the FERC scoping meetings, visit www.kenaihydro.com .
