On behalf of the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank board of directors and staff, we wish to express our thanks and gratitude to the National Association of Letter Carriers and the United States Postal Service as they collected nonperishable food items May 8. Thank you to all of you who left canned goods by your mailbox.
Kenai letters carriers collected 1,065 pounds of nonperishables and Soldotna letter carriers picked up 904 pounds.
Individual donations and food drives such as the Stamp Out Hunger drive provide approximately 9 percent of the food the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank distributes annually. Local grocery stores and wholesalers provide 54 percent of the incoming poundage dispersed.
If you would like to organize a food drive, please contact the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank at 262-3111.
