Area chambers set schedule

Chambers of commerce speakers for the upcoming week include:

Doug Lentsch of Cook Inlet Spill Prevention and Response Inc. will speak at the Nikiski Chamber of Commerce meeting at noon today at North Kenai Baptist Church. For more information, call Judene Van Cleave at 776-5551.

Ron Lucia, general manager of the Peninsula Oilers, will speak at the Kenai Chamber of Commerce meeting at noon Wednesday at Paradisos. Lunch is $10.50. For more information, call 283-7989.

Vendors, parade entries sought

The Kenai Chamber of Commerce is seeking entries in the Fourth of July Parade and accepting applications for vendor booths. Applications can be picked up at the chamber cabin at 402 Overland St. For more information, call 283-7989.

Alaska businesses donate to jellyfish exhibit

Wells Fargo Bank and Essential 1, the retail division of Shoreside Petroleum, will each donate $5,000 toward construction of a new jellyfish exhibit at the Alaska SeaLife Center in Seward. Construction on the exhibit's seven-foot wide viewing tank is scheduled to begin this month. The center is seeking donations from the public and visitors to complete construction by the planned opening of the exhibit in September.

The Alaska SeaLife Center is a nonprofit marine science facility dedicated to understanding and maintaining the integrity of the marine ecosystem of Alaska through research, rehabilitation and public education. The center is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The center's Web site is

Physician recognized for worker safety

The office of Dr. Theodore Barton has received the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) award from the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development. The award is given for maintaining outstanding employee safety and health programs. Barton's office employs four.
