Home-schoolers track meet today
A track meet for home-schooled students will begin at 5 p.m. today at Skyview High School. It is free and participants can register at the start of the meet. Events are planned for all ages, from toddlers through parents of the students. For more information, contact Teresa Danielson at 262-7761.
Hunger Awareness Day set
The Kenai Peninsula Food Bank, in conjunction with area restaurants, will observe Hunger Awareness Day today. The following restaurants will donate a portion the day's proceeds to the food bank: Burger Bus; Charlotte's (both locations); Veronica's; Good Books and More; Arby's in Kenai, Soldotna and Homer; Little Ski-Mo's; Wings; Coffee Concepts; Froso's; Jersey Subs (both locations); Kaladi Brothers; Mykel's; Riverside House; Blue Grouse Drive-In; and Ohana's. Brain awareness walk, barbecue scheduled
The Kenai Peninsula Brain Injury Support Group will hold its eighth annual Brain Awareness Walk at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Kenai Central High School. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. The walk is part of the National Brain Awareness Week. The walk route will begin at KCHS and continue though downtown Kenai to the Green Strip Park on Main Street Loop, where a barbecue lunch will be served. Participants will receive a certificate of appreciation. The cost is $10 or a filled sponsor sheet. For more information or to register, call 283-5711 or 262-6333.
Fund-raiser for fire department set
The Funny River Volunteer Fire Department will hold a bake and garage sale fund-raiser from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 11 and 12 at the fire station at Mile 16.5 of Funny River Road. It is seeking donations and baked good items to sell. All unsold items will be donated to charity. Those wishing to donate can either drop off items from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 10 at the station or call to arrange for pick up. Boys and Girls Club plans golf tourney
The Boys and Girls Club of the Kenai Peninsula is taking reservations for its 13th annual Golf Classic on June 18 at the Kenai Golf Course. Attendees will receive a goody bag, tournament gift, continental breakfast, barbecue lunch and free drinks. There also will be opportunities to win prizes. The proceeds will go to help provided quality programs to peninsula youth. Registration and breakfast will be from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Entry fee for individual players is $100 and hole sponsorships are $250. Red Cross tournament set
The American Red Cross will hold it 13th annual golf classic, barbecue and auction fund-raiser on July 3 at the Birch Ridge Golf Course in Soldotna. Sponsors, volunteers and players are being sought for the event. For more information, to volunteer or register, call 262-4541.
