Since it was founded by pioneer physician to the Kenai Peninsula Dr. Elmer Gaede in 1969, the Soldotna Medical Clinic (SMC) has focused on providing total family health care for individuals in the local community. In 1983 Gonzalo Araoz-Fraser M.D. joined Dr. Gaede's medical practice and when Gaede retired three years later Fraser bought the original clinic and continued providing primary family healthcare while modernizing SMC with the latest computer medical record and billing systems. During his long practice Dr. Fraser has become increasingly interested in current allergy treatments which are a growing cause for discomfort and symptoms here in Alaska.
With the help of medical assistant Jody Westover, patients at SMC receive the latest in allergy testing which allows Dr. Fraser to diagnose and target the specific cause of the allergy and treat the cause with a series of serum injections. "We are proud to be able to provide medical services to the entire family. From the youngest to oldest members, from FAA certified flight physicals to minor surgeries, from your kids sports physicals to oncology and geriatric care, we feel our staff is an extension of your own family," said Dr. Fraser.
From it's inception under Dr. Gaede the Soldotna Medical Clinic has been known for community service throughout Alaska. Under Dr. Fraser SMC started a medical clinic in Haiti and in cooperation with the Soldotna Rotary Club helped establish a refugee shelter in Bogota, Colombia which continues to serve children who have been orphaned or whose parents have been kidnapped through the war on drugs. While one of the first medical clinics established in the Central Peninsula on the Spur Highway, SMC is now located in a modern 3,000 sq. ft. office space on South Kobuk Street next to the original Kaladi Brothers Coffee in Soldotna. SMC is now completely equipped with the latest in electronic medical record systems to better serve their patients.
SMC and their professional staff also provide immigration physicals and pediatric care. With nearly 40 years of experience Dr. Fraser has earned the trust of his patients and the respect of his colleagues. Walk-ins are always welcome and visitors can feel confident when in need of medical care. "Hablamos Espanol at Soldotna Medical Clinic."
