Rush Limbaugh tactics used to smear Knowles

Posted: Friday, June 04, 2004

It is sad, but it had to happen. The tactics used by the Bush campaign to smear John Kerry have come to Alaska. The Washington Republican smear artists are attacking Tony Knowles on the behalf of Lisa Murkowski. Alaskans don't see the Bush negative campaign ads (targeted to particular states) because Republicans believe Alaskans are not smart enough to vote for anyone other than Bush.

A study by a serious research institute, and reported in the Washington Post, of the speeches by Bush, by his surrogates and negative ads, shows the Bush campaign is attacking Kerry with what I like to call the Rush Limbaugh method a small kernel of fact lathered over with lies, half truths and innuendos.

A simple example of the Limbaugh method from Rush's own mouth was aired recently. It has been reported that Massachusetts toll booth attendants have been rude and unhelpful. They must be acting under orders from Senators Kennedy and Kerry. A reported fact is turned into a preposterous statement that no reasonable person could believe. This is the method used by the Bush campaign against Kerry, and now being used by the Washington GOP against Knowles. What is really sad is that there are plenty of ignorant people out there who will believe it.

Now Lisa says her campaign knows nothing about the ads has no part in them. And the moon is made of green cheese too. I expect we'll hear some comments from Wev Shea about this.

Lisa should be worrying about her Republicans opponents in the closed Republican primary. If the Republican primary had been closed in 1988 the Kenai Peninsula's own Bob Bird may very well have defeated Ted Stevens in the primary. Only crossover Democrats saved Stevens' butt! I know. I was one of them.

Lisa's Washington insiders are ignorant of Alaska history. They will spend all her money attacking Knowles, and Miller will walk away with the nomination.
