As Alaskans, it is important that we assess the types of corporations we want to have operating in our State - as business partners and as our neighbors. I think all too often we fail to embrace companies that are doing good work both here in our home state and elsewhere.
Recently, I was pleased to read that Anglo American, the company partnered with Pebble to explore and potentially develop the Pebble Prospect, was the first mining company to receive an award honoring its responsible business practices and social and environmental platforms.
Anglo American received this award from Business in the Community, a UK-based organization that recognizes businesses for their positive impact on society through corporate social responsibility.
As a long-time Alaskan, I know we are fortunate to have many such companies here, and I want to take this opportunity to thank Anglo for investing in Alaska and for maintaining strong business, social and environmental standards worldwide.
