New guest lodge opens at McKinley

ANCHORAGE (AP) Denali Park Resorts has opened a new guest lodge at the McKinley Chalet Resort and also completed a renovation.

The new McKinley Chalet Resort guest lodge opened May 15. It is the most modern building in the Denali area. It features a waterfall, 34-foot atrium ceilings, an upscale restaurant and bar with views of the Nenana River, and an expanded retail area and interpretive exhibits for guests.

''The original building was there about 20 years and had outlived its usefulness,'' Steve Halloran, director of sales and marketing. Halloran said. ''We needed to update it and modernize it. Rather than try to do it piecemeal we took the old building down. It's all new from the ground up.''

In addition to the new lodge, all 345 guest rooms at the McKinley Chalet Resort have been renovated to compliment the new building. Rooms have new drapes and bedspreads.

The entire resort will be newly landscaped by mid-June.

Denali Park Resorts celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.

Managed by ARAMARK, an authorized concessioner of the National Park Service, Denali Park Resorts owns and operates two lodging facilities near the entrance to the park.

Set on the banks of the Nenana River eight miles south of the park entrance, the McKinley Village Lodge features 150 guest rooms in several lodges. Less than a mile from the park entrance, the McKinley Chalet Resort features 345 pine-paneled two room suites in cedar lodges along the river.
