Boy drowns in Kuskokwim River

ANCHORAGE (AP) A McGrath boy drowned Tuesday while swimming with friends, Alaska State Troopers said.

Pat Norback, 13, was in the Kuskokwim River off Sand Island when he went under the surface and did not come back up, troopers said.

The regional public safety officer in McGrath was notified of the drowning at 9 p.m. and a search was launched. Norback's family was notified, troopers said.

The boy's body was recovered around 5 p.m. Wednesday, troopers said.
