Seafood industry needs workers

Seafood processing companies are geared up and hiring Alaskans to process salmon and pollock this summer. Statewide, there already are more than 900 openings listed with the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development's Job Centers. Large numbers of seafood workers are needed to start in mid-June and for the next five weeks in Bristol Bay , the next seven weeks in Kenai, for the next six to eight weeks in the Cordova and Valdez area, and for the next eight weeks in southeast Alaska. Some companies provide transportation to work sites and have room and board incentives, dependent upon completion of the work contract.

For more information on seafood processing jobs, either contact the nearest Alaska Job Center and speak to a Seafood Specialist, call toll-free in Alaska at (800)473-0688, or go to the Seafood Jobs in Alaska Web site at and click on "Seafood Jobs" and on "Current Openings" and search by location. Referral instructions and a seafood application are online to be printed out and faxed.
