Women voters to meet

Kenai Peninsula League of Women Voters will hold a potluck meeting at noon Friday at Christ Lutheran Church. It will be the last meeting until September. For more information, call Lois at 260-3111.

Steak dinner fundraiser scheduled

The Sterling Senior Center will hold a steak dinner fundraiser from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the center. Reservations are required. Admission cost are adults $12.50, children ages 3 to 12 are $8 and children under 3 are free. For more information or to make a reservation, call 262-6808.

Garage sale fundraiser set

A multifamily garage sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Soldotna Wells Fargo Bank in the parking lot on Warehouse Street.

Proceeds will help defray medical expenses for breast cancer treatment for Erica Summers.

River festival set to flow

The annual free Kenai River Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Soldotna Creek Park.

Fish painting on T-shirts, a mobile aquatic classroom, “Pathways to Fishing,” barany chair andpaper rockets, silly salmon hat making, crafts and walking sticks, wooden fish modelpainting, make your ownbuttons, soil tunnel and trivial wheel, making clay coho salmon fry, Caring for the Kenai winner displays, the Earthquake cottage, puppet shows, wildlife craft, ice and flood damage, waterscience activities and skiff andknot tying activities are some of the planned events.

Community run ready to go

Run for the River 5-kilometer and 10-mile runs will be held Saturday at Soldotna Creek Park, behind Don Jose’s Restaurant. Registration and warm-up begin at 8 a.m., and the race is at 9 a.m.

The race will be run on a multiple-turn, loop course and benefits the Kenai River and the Kenai River Festival. Prizes will be awarded in several age categories. The cost for adult preregistration is $15 or $25 the day of the race; under 18 preregistration is $10 or $20 the day of the race; and ages 6 and under are free. Registration fee includes a T-shirt and a two-week membership to Peninsula Athletic Club.
