Military members' information sought

The Peninsula Clarion would like to honor the Kenai Peninsula's active duty personnel by printing updated information on families with armed service members.

Families are invited to include the following information on their soldier(s): Rank, name, branch of service, hometown, date joined, current station, job assignment, high school and date of graduation, names of family members -- including spouses and children and an address if the soldier would like to receive letters.

The deadline to submit information is Tuesday.

Information may be e-mailed to news@peninsulaclarion.com -- in the subject line put soldier information, dropped off at 150 Trading Bay Drive, Kenai -- attention solider information or faxed to 283-3299 -- attention newsroom. E-mail is preferred. For more information, call Nan Misner at 335-1241.

Volleyball garage sale fundraiser today

The Skyview High School volleyball team will hold a garage sale fundraiser from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Saturday at 184 Hillcrest Ave. in Soldotna.

Historical society to meet

The Soldotna Historical Society will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday in the main museum building on Centennial Park Road. It is open to the public. For more information, call 262-4157.

Beautification volunteers sought

Volunteers are being sought to help plant flowers beds in Kenai at 10 a.m. Saturday. Volunteers are asked to meet at the firestation to check in. An appreciation barbecue will be held afterward for volunteers. For more information, call Kenai Parks and Recreation at 283-3692.

Archers take aim

Kenai Peninsula Archers will host its first 3-D shoot of the season at 1 p.m. Saturday at its range on North Arc Loop Road (turn left and go to the first street on the right).

Boy Scouts food drive planned

Boy Scouts of America will hold a food drive for the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The scouts will go door to door, as well as set up stations at the Soldotna Safeway and Country Foods in Kenai for collection sites.

Scouts will collect non-perishable items that may be stored in the warehouse of the food bank for summer use.

Clean water ballot initiative to be discussed

The Kenai Peninsula Economic Development District, the Kenai Peninsula Resource Conservation and Development Council, the Kenai and Soldotna chambers of commerce will hold a free public forum on the Clean Water Ballot Initiative from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Renee C. Henderson Auditorium at Kenai Central High School.

Representatives with Alaskans For Clean Water and Against the Mining Shutdown, as well as a legal expert, a fisheries biologist and Kenai residents for and against the initiative will be on the panel. Merrill Sikoriski will be the moderator. Time will be given for public questions.

Pressure gauges check-up slated

The University of Alaska Cooperative Extension Service office is offering free testing of pressure canner dial gauges from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Wednesday Market in Soldotna.

Weighted gauges do not need to be checked.
