Registration is now under way for the annual Homer News Spit Run scheduled for June 26.
Early registration for the 10-kilometer race is free. Registration forms can be downloaded from the Homer News Web site at homernews.com. There will be a $5 fee for those registering after 5 p.m. June 23. Spit Run T-shirts also are now being sold at the Homer News. Cost is $20 for short-sleeved shirts and $25 for long-sleeved shirts. Shirts also will be sold before the race and at the finish line, but quantities are limited.
On the day of the race, check-in is from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at Homer High School, with the race beginning at 10 a.m.
The race finishes at the end of the Homer Spit, by Land's End Resort. Official timing ends at noon. A free shuttle will be offered until noon for runners to return to Homer High to pick up cars.
The race is for all abilities and ages, and runners also are invited to participate in costumes.
There will be a post-race party on the deck of Land's End, which will include a no-host barbecue. Music will be by Johnny B.
Prizes for the fastest man and woman will be given. Every racer will receive a water bottle, courtesy of South Peninsula Hospital.
Race participants are invited to watch the start of the annual Homer Yacht Club Land's End Regatta at the completion of the Spit Run.
