Cubs get good Wood in victory over Cardinals

CHICAGO -- Kerry Wood took a no-hit bid into the sixth inning and Sammy Sosa homered to lead Chicago over the St. Louis Cardinals 4-1 Wednesday, the Cubs' 14th win in 15 games.

Rondell White and Matt Stairs also homered for the Cubs, who increased their NL Central lead to four games over second-place St. Louis.

Braves 2, Expos 0

MONTREAL -- John Burkett (5-4) allowed two hits in 7 2-3 innings and Rico Brogna homered as Atlanta stretched its longest winning streak of the season to five.

Phillies 6, Mets 1

PHILADELPHIA -- Amaury Telemaco (5-1) pitched a six-hitter for his first career complete game, shutting out New York until the ninth inning.

Philadelphia, which stopped a three-game losing streak, has won four of five against the Mets this season.

Marlins 7, Pirates 2

MIAMI -- Mike Lowell homered and drove in three runs to back Ryan Dempster (6-6), who won his third straight start.

Reds 6, Brewers 3

MILWAUKEE -- Elmer Dessens (5-2) gave up six hits in seven innings, and Ruben Rivera had four hits.

Danny Graves relieved with the bases loaded and one out in the ninth and got his 13th save in 17 chances.

Rockies 9, Astros 8

DENVER -- Ben Petrick hit two homers and drove in three runs as Colorado won its fourth straight.

Brian Bohanon (3-4) won his second straight start since coming off the disabled list, giving up two runs and six hits in six-plus innings.

Diamondbacks 4, Dodgers 1

PHOENIX -- Curt Schilling (10-1) pitched a six-hitter to become the major leagues' first 10-game winner. He struck out eight and walked none in his major league-leading fourth complete game.

Giants 6, Padres 4

SAN FRANCISCO -- Rich Aurilia hit a two-run homer, helping send San Diego to its eighth straight loss.
