JUNEAU (AP) -- Gov. Tony Knowles signed a bill Thursday that would require landowners to give more notice in some cases before evicting tenants from mobile home parks.
The measure requires 270 days notice if mobile home dwellers are being evicted because of zoning changes. Currently, 180 days notice is required.
The bill also prohibits a landowner from evicting people during the winter months when trailers may be frozen to the ground. That provision also applies when the eviction is a result of a zoning change.
The bill was prompted by a July 2000 zoning change in Anchorage, which resulted in the eviction of 220 mobile home owners.
It was sponsored by Sen. Johnny Ellis, D-Anchorage.
