Helping out the Food Bank

Posted: Monday, June 07, 2004

Mary Wendel, Angela Ramponi and Mariah Henson, members of Girl Scout Troop No. 618, carry boxes at the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank. The troop has adopted the food bank as its service project and members go to help out at least once a month. The girls have cleaned and restocked shelves, sorted and packaged food, helped serve in the soup kitchen, decorated birthday bags and made Easter goodie bags. They also have made decorations for the soup kitchen during their troop meetings. The girls donated a dozen eggs at Easter time and also donated three cases of Girl Scout cookies (36 boxes), which they chose to pay for from their troop money. This money is usually spent on some fun activity for the girls at the end of the year, like going swimming or rollerskating, but my girls donated to the food bank instead, said unit leader Carrie Henson. Troop members include Wendel, Ramponi, Henson, Vicky Tachick, Christina Tachick, Erica Hoyt, Naomi Chythlook, Lexie Kirsch and Deserae Kirsch.
