It's a family business that hard work and long hours helped make Andrew, Gordon, Tammy and Chazz successful at their eatery.
In every person's future is a dream that they create for themselves. Some see visions of being firemen, nurses, doctors, clowns, lawyers or business owners.
That is exactly what Gordon and Tammy Blank of Hali's Fish & Chips have become. Business owners. In May 2004 they took the big leap in to hard work, rough times and long, long hours. Their life became their business and their business became their life. That's the reality of being entrepreneurs, you take risks and you even question yourself at times. The secret must be to not give up, have faith, pull together and strive to succeed.
Hali's Fish & Chips is celebrating their first anniversary because they didn't give up, had faith and they all pulled together. This includes sons Chazz and Andrew. When not in school or playing on the Kenai High School football team they are helping at the restaurant. It's a family business and in unison they focused on making it.

Gordon and Tammy have lived in Alaska for over twenty years and both hail from restaurant backgrounds. Gordon was a commercial fisherman at one time and has left the high seas for steadier ground. He worked locally at Mykel's for several years as a prep cook prior to opening Hali's. Tammy also worked at Mykel's four plus years as a souse chef with twenty years experience in food service.
Hali's Fish & Chips is the only DRIVE THRU ONLY eatery in town and you can see cars bumper to bumper at peak times to pick up their orders. It's easy, convenient and delicious at that. "Quality food was important to us to bring to a fast food setting" says Tammy, "We selected halibut over cod as our fish because of the opportunity to have it fresh".
Orders called in can easily be picked up at the drive thru where your food is prepared as you order.
The menu is simple, offering prawns, scallops, popcorn shrimp, calamari, scallops, clams and oysters as well as the peninsula's favorite, fish and chips, the halibut we have come to love. The batter is made from their own recipe, the clam chowder comes in New England or Manhattan style made fresh at Hali's as well as the cole slaw. Fresh sauces are made by Tammy and Gordon and they have received plenty of compliments on them. And they also offer a chicken dish for those who want to enjoy the side dishes and prefer something other than fish. Nightly dinner specials are available and Friday nights they offer deep fried salmon, an Alaskan favorite at Hali's. The Tender Boat is a seafood basket that offers a taste of everything seafood. It's a fisherman's platter with all the trimmings like soup, sauces, slaw and fries. This is definitely the way to go on your first visit so you will know which your favorite is. Last spring an area was seeded for grass and picnic tables were added to the area where on nice sunny days you will see several noon time customers enjoying the great outdoors or after work diners enjoying a hot meal and a relaxing atmosphere.
Hali's Fish & Chips is located across from Home Depot in the old Pizza Boys location in Kenai on Spur Highway. They are open for business Monday through Saturday 11:30 am until 8:30pm.
