G'Day from Mavis.

Retired dentist John McCarthy must be so proud of his daughter. Sarah is a chip off the ol' block and has decided to start a career as a dental hygienist. Her first job is working with Dr. Jay Rohloff.

For those of you who aren't in the know, last weekend Sara married Brandon Klobucar in the sunny state of Hawaii with most of the McCarthy clan in attendance. Sara and Brandon have purchased their first home in Soldotna.

Dan and Donna Mortenson have returned from a week Down Under. The Mortensons were with Carpet One's 20th anniversary celebration members trip. They said they enjoyed the walking tour of the Sydney Rocks historic district, a sailing regatta, helicopter ride, harbor cruise and the Harbor Bridge climb.

I always wanted to make that climb but never quite could talk myself into it.

Carpet One's birthday party was at Luna Park, which is like Disney World, and the gala event was at the Sydney Opera House with the Sydney Philharmonic Orchestra.

The next stop was at Cairns and on up to the Great Barrier Reef for snorkeling. Donna said they really enjoyed the Aussie people and were impressed at how clean everything was. Sounds like a great time was had by all.

Alicia Morgan spent a couple weeks in Gibson, British Columbia visiting her son, Cliff Ryden. He graduated for Soldotna High School in1985. Alicia said she did some hiking and kayaking with Valerie, her daughter-in-law. Grandchildren Kallalie, 2, and Sierra, 8 months, made for a busy visit. Grandma hustled to keep up.

Birch Ridge Golf Course will sponsor a Junior Golf Clinic for one week starting Monday. The clinic is a directed program with a preset curriculum, including skill development to fit the individual's needs. Both beginners and skilled junior golfers can attend.

The beginners will spend most of their time on the practice facilities and the skilled junior's will spend more time on the golf course. Both will be tested for skill, training, etiquette and rules, with the intention to allow the junior golfers to prepare to qualify in local and state competitions.

If any of you have any old rods and reels you would like to donate to the Hooked On Fishing program, you could bring them to the Boys and Girls Club. The Kenai River Sport Fishing Association will give area area youth a completely refurbished pole for fishing in early June at the Kenai River Festival. You can call Ricky Gease at 262-8582 for more information.
