Home school book sale slated

The Soldotna home school support group will host its fifth annual used curriculum and book sale from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church in Soldotna. For more information, call 262-6282.

Swim lessons available

Soldotna High School pool's summer schedule is Mondays through Fridays with pool rental available Saturdays and Sundays. The weekly schedule is as follows: 6 to 7:55 a.m., lap swim; 8 to 9:55 a.m., Soldotna Silver Salmon Swim Team; 10 a.m. to 12:10 p.m., swimming lessons; noon to 1 p.m., lap swim and private lessons; 1 to 2:45 p.m., open swim; 3 to 5 p.m., swimming lessons; and 5 to 6 p.m., lap swim and private lessons.

The cost is $3 for adults, students and seniors or $25 for plunge cards.

There will be five sessions of swim lessons offered, most consisting of 10 lessons each and are 40 minutes in length. Due to limited space, preregistration is suggested.

Session dates are: Monday, June 27 (this session will only have nine lessons), July 11 and July 25. Lessons are offered six times a day and held Monday through Friday. The cost is $40 per session. Private lessons are $10 for 30 minutes. For more information or to register, call the pool at 262-7419.

Barbecue fund-raiser cooking

The Sterling Senior Center will host its 15th annual barbecue fund-raiser from 4 to 8 p.m. June 25. Ribs, chicken, baked beans, salad, garlic bread and dessert will be served. Door prizes, a silent auction and a bake sale are some of the planned activities.

Admission prices are $12.50 for adults or $5 for children ages 3 to 12.

Dog classes available

Peninsula Dog Obedience Group is offering classes at its facility on Kalifornsky Beach Road next to the Central Area Rural Transit System (CARTS) in the Midway Plaza. Continuous classes include levels obedience. Students will be able to train and move up levels at their own pace. New student orientation is held weekly. The cost is $50 for an eight-week punch card, which is good for four months.

The club also will offer ongoing agility, rally, Flyball, open obedience, beginning conformation with conformation run-throughs and puppy kindergarten for dogs ages 8 weeks to 4 months. For more information, call 262-6846 or visit
