As of Tuesday, the Alaska Department of Natural Resources suspended the use of burning permits on the western Kenai Peninsula based on a return to sunny, dry weather. Burning in barrels will not be allowed during the suspension.
Campfires are allowed if they are on dirt, sand or gravel and water is available to completely extinguish the fire if the wind comes up or the camper is leaving the site. Bonfires are not allowed.
