The American Legion Twins of Kenai opened their season with a split Saturday at West Anchorage.
The Twins won their opening nine-inning game 11-4, powered by a pair of doubles and a home run from Robbie Rounsaville. Kenai faltered in Game 2, though, dropping a 6-3 decision.
The Twins were able to put a run on the board in the first inning of Game 1 after Nick Weigle connected for a one-out double and Rounsaville drove him in with a two-out double.
West struck for three runs in the first inning, but the Twins regained their lead with four in the top of the third. Kyle Foster and Kenneth Butler doubled in the frame.
Kenai scored two more in the fourth with hits from Brian Tweedy, Chase Townsend and Weigle, and Rounsaville gave the Twins a 8-3 lead with his solo home run in the fifth.
Kenai added two more runs in the seventh and doubles by Foster and Rounsaville plated a run in the eighth.
Weigle went six innings for the win in his first career start while Butler came on in relief.
"It was a real good game," said Twins manager Lance Coz. "We showed a lot of solid defense.
"In the second ballgame, we just kind of hit a wall."
West jumped out to a 5-1 lead after three innings of play.
The Twins plated two runs in the top of the fourth. West made it 6-3 with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Kenai put runners at second and third in the sixth inning and had a runner on third in the seventh, but couldn't come back to tie the game.
Corey Grimm took the loss after four innings of work while Zack Hicks pitched two innings of scoreless relief.
The Twins, 1-1 overall, will play Dimond today.
