Members of the recently formed Kenai-Anchorage Resource Advisory Committee will meet this Saturday to schedule future meetings and appoint a group head.
The Secretary of Agriculture recently appointed the committee to recommend improvements to the Chugach National Forest. The committee was created as part of the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act of 2008.
The committee will have at its disposal to more than $300,000 in funds to support forest improvement projects, according to Bobbie Jo Skibo, the group's coordinator. Skibo said that the committee will approve proposals up until Sept. 30 of next year, and fund projects until Sept. 30, 2012.
The RAC will be accepting proposals from the general public, Forest Service employees and the committee's 15 members, Skibo said the committee has separated its members into three groups: commercial interests, environmental and academics and public officials.
She said the group will hold a public forum to get input at about 4 p.m. at their meeting Saturday.
