FAIRBANKS (AP) -- The Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly has passed a property tax reduction.

The fiscal year 2000-2001 areawide property tax will be 13.662 mills or a reduction of $81.83 in annual property taxes on a $100,000 home. That's about 0.8183 less than the current rate of 14.48 mills.

The assembly voted unanimously in favor of the tax cut.

While the areawide mill rate was reduced, the non-areawide rate increased 0.006 to 0.522 over last year's rate of 0.516. The solid waste collection rate also was cut 0.029 to 1.59 and reflects a savings of $2.90.
