Kenai library plans events

The Kenai Community Library kicks off its summer reading program, "Laugh it up at your library," this month. The program runs through July 7 and is open to all age groups. School-age readers meet from 1 to 2 p.m. Mondays, except June 23. To sign up for the program, visit the library.

Also this month:

The library will host a beginning Internet class at 6:30 p.m. today in the conference room. The class will cover basic Internet skills and searching techniques. For more information or to register by phone, call Julie at 283-4378.

The Friends of the Kenai Community Library will host its book sale Thursday through Saturday. Friends-members are invited to the presale from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday. The public is welcome from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The Totem Tracers Genealogy Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. June 17 at the Family History Center for an overview of the resources available there. Resource Saturday will be from 1 to 3 p.m. June 21, with Totem Tracers members available at the library to help members of the public with genealogy research.

The Writers' Group will meet at 6:30 p.m. June 19 in the conference room. Anyone who writes for profit or pleasure is welcome to attend.

The Kachemak Bay Writers' Conference, "Can Writers Make a Difference?" will be June 22-26 at the Land's End Resort in Homer. More than 30 lectures, workshops, panel presentations and readings are planned. For more information, call (907) 235-7743.

The Kenai Library Book Club will meet at 7 p.m. June 29 to discuss "Far From the Madding Crowd," by Thomas Hardy. Anyone interested in reading and sharing what they have read is encouraged to join the club.
