Soldotna TOPS meetings available

Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) AK No. 218 meets at 10 a.m. Wednesdays at Christ Lutheran Church in Soldotna. Weigh-ins begin at 9 a.m.

Self-defense class offered

A self-defense class taught by certified instructors will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. June 17 through 19 and from 10 to noon June 20 at Christ Lutheran Church on the Kenai Spur Highway in Soldotna.

The cost is $50 per person.

Donations sought

Donations are being accepted at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10046 at 134 N. Birch St. in Soldotna for the third annual garage and bake sale slated for June 19 and 20.

Proceeds support local veterans and community services. Call the post at 262-2722 for more information.

Solstice duathlon to take off running

The second annual Tsalteshi Solstice Duathlon will be held at 11 a.m. June 20 on the trails behind Skyview High School. Registration for the 5K run and 10K bike begins at 10 a.m. on race day.

Participants may compete as individuals or as teams. The cost is $10 for Tsalteshi Trails Association members and $15 for nonmembers. Call Laura at 398-0774 or Kent at 394-6231 for more information.

Flag Day honored

Kenai and Soldotna Elk Lodges will host a Flag Day ceremony at 6 p.m. Saturday (Flag Day is Sunday) at the Peninsula Oilers ball park in Kenai.

Admission is free courtesy, of Kenai and Soldotna Elks Lodges.

Disc golf tourney slated

A disc golf tournament will be held Aug. 1 at the disc golf course behind the Peninsula Oilers ball park in Kenai to raise funds for Camp Mend A Heart, a bereavement camp for youth, sponsored by Hospice of the Central Peninsula.

Hospice is seeking community members to sponsor or co-sponser a hole, a team, be a team player or volunteer for tasks for the tournament.

The day camp is free to local children ages 6 to 12 and set for Aug. 17-19.

Dog club gearing up for annual event

The Kenai Kennel Club will hold a three-day dog agility trial and conformation show July 10-12 at Skyview High School.
