The Bird opens up for play

Posted: Tuesday, June 09, 2009

We are up and running and the course is turning all of the beautiful shades of green that golfers in Alaska are so lucky to experience. Most of our great help from last year is back.

Men's night is off to a great start. Fifteen men teed off at 6:30 on June 2. The team of Paul Zimmerman, Greg Harrington and Trevor Hordeman finished first with 1 under par. Gary Effenbeck, Max Carpentar and Scotty Sundberg were 3 over par.

Rodney McRorie took pure birdie and closest to on No. 8, just 2 1/2 inches from the cup. Paul Zimmerman was closest to on No. 6 with a distance of 26 feet. The word is that Trevor Hordeman had a monster drive on No. 3 to win long drive.

The seniors plus (plus being anyone who enjoys playing along with the seniors) Bird Homestead Cup is getting under way with 12 teams. They will be holding a potluck and organizational meeting Friday at 6:30 p.m.

We hope to see all you avid golfers out on the course taking advantage of the great Alaska summer.
