Historical site reopens for summer season

ANCHORAGE (AP) The Independence Mine Historical Park will reopen to the public for the summer season on Friday, Alaska state parks officials said.

The visitor center will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily until the weekend after Labor Day, which falls on Sept. 1 this year.

The park is northwest of Palmer.

Daily guided tours of the mine camp are set to begin June 21.

Cost of the tours is $5 for adults and $3 for senior citizens and children.
