Seniors' special day made possible by many

Posted: Wednesday, June 10, 2009

Many thanks to the community volunteers who made the seventh annual Return of the Salmon Celebration at Heritage Place such a great success.

Heritage Place residents look forward every year to the Return of the Salmon Celebration, where they, Soldotna seniors, Kenaitze elders, Heritage Place staff and the families of residents and staff are treated to fresh salmon and halibut, special side dishes and home-grown entertainment.

Special thanks to the Soldotna Rotary Club's Bill Wirin, Leonor Fraser, John Kobylarz, Kelly Keating, Larry Semmens, Dennis Murray and Peter Brennan for helping in the organization this event and with set-up and cleanup. Thank you to Jim Fellman and Ed and Michael Krohn for donating the fish, also for grilling the salmon and deep-frying the halibut. The roasted corn on the cob was a huge success. Thank you to Irv and Carla Carlisle for the corn and cooking the corn and to Ken Laing for loaning the corn roaster. Thanks to Coca Cola for donated soft drinks, to Soldotna Senior Center for its huge bowl of cole slaw. Many thanks to the Heritage Place kitchen and maintenance staff for their contributions and assistance in bringing it together and tying up loose ends.

Thank you to Sue Biggs and Jack Will for the beautiful music.

Thanks to everyone who donated their time and effort to making this year's celebration a special day for our community's seniors.
