The Department of Fish and Game is considering closure of the Anchor River to king fishing the rest of the season depending on fish counts there, according to officials.
"We're just waiting to see how the escapement goes over the next few days to see whether we can make our goal or not. It'd be nice to see the escapement counts around 200 fish each day or more," said Homer Fish and Game biologist Nicky Szarzi. "We'll know further later on in the week what we're doing."
On Tuesday, 247 kings were counted using a sonar and weir count, for a total of 2,035 fish in the river.
