Community council appreciates north peninsula cleanup efforts

The North Peninsula Community Council would like to thank the following businesses and individuals for donations of money, food, goods and services that made the annual Nikiski community cleanup effort a successful and memorable event. This event took place May 19. We gave away prizes and awards to individuals and groups who participated.

Many thanks to Nikiski Chamber of Commerce, G & G Machine Shop, Dunkin and Bush, Alaska Anvil, Nikiski Hardware, Toloff Crane Service, Great Northern Video, Nero's, Ruben's Pizza, Taylor-Made Espresso, Bubba's Restaurant, Stay Tan, Bear Paw, M & M Market, Peak Oilfield Services, Weatherford US, Unocal Oil and Gas, Jack Brown, Rep. Mike Chenault, Sen. Jerry Ward and Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor Dale Bagley. A very special thank you goes to Peninsula Sanitation for removing all the trash after it was picked up.

We appreciate all of the efforts of those that worked on the committee and organized the cleanup. We also want to thank the many people who turned out to pick up all the trash.

The $300 cash prize was awarded to Denya Devold's Brownie Troop No. 210. The $200 prize went to Peninsula Ready Mix, which donated back $110. The $100 prize went to the Nikiski Church of Christ, which also donated it back. Drawing prizes awarded to individuals included bicycles, scooters, ice chests, gloves, hats, gift certificates and much, much more.

We also know that there were many in the community who picked up trash before and after the event. We applaud those efforts also.

This was an effort by many to make our community a clean and beautiful community. We would like to remind every one to tie down your loads when hauling trash.
