With the hope of reeling in visitors to local business establishments and organizations, the Kenai Chamber of Commerce "Hooked on Kenai" adventure is now in full swing. The Headwaters for the program are open at the Kenai Airport and staffed with volunteers 7 days a week.
According to Kenai Chamber executive director, Aud Walaszek, volunteers will greet flights from 5:00am to 9:30pm, giving each visitor a smile and a Hooked on Kenai map that designates the locations of the 45 Hooked on Kenai exhibitors. At each location visitors can vote for their favorite decorated salmon, and become eligible for the weekly drawing for a free fishing charter. The fish with the most votes will be honored at the fall Kenai Chamber of Commerce Town & Gown awards banquet.
Volunteer's range in age from teenagers, to senior citizens, with over 40 seniors from Kenai Central High School signed up for regular shifts.
"We still have some shifts open, so any one who wants to join the fun can call the Chamber and sign up, and everyone can show their Hooked on Kenai spirit this summer by getting their shirt, jacket, hat, or t-shirt at the Headwaters in the Kenai Airport," said Walaszek.
