Angler requests prompt emergency order updates

Posted: Friday, June 11, 2010

The Department of Fish and Game has an "Inseason fishing hotline" for Soldotna, listed on the cover of their 2010 Fishing Regulations (262-2737). As of June 9 at 10 p.m. it stated that "at this time no emergency orders are in effect for this area"! Friday the fourth, the day after the rumor hit the Kenai area of the pending Saturday king closure, I called their office and requested that they update their recording, which they assured me they would do very quickly, but they hadn't had time yet.

I live here but don't listen to the radio, news or read the paper on a regular basis. When I am out fishing, as more than a few people here are, I enjoy a media blackout.

When it comes to fishing on the most regulated river in the world, I rely on and regularily check the Fish and Game hotline for any emergency closure information, and I expect that many tourists we have invited here do so as well. Please help us avoid any fines this summer by promptly updating your recording.
