Palmer angler leads Homer derby June standings

David Baumann of Palmer has recorded the biggest fish this month in the Homer Jackpot Halibut Derby.

Baumann landed a 238.4-pound fish on June 2 to capture first place in the monthly standings. Tim Long of Owasso, Okla., caught a 235.8-pound fish, good for second place, on June 6 and Steve Wilson of Louisburg, Kan., hooked the third-place fish, a 177.6-pounder, on June 6.

Douglas Epps of Homer landed his fourth-place, 169.2-pound fish on June 7 and Bill Milewski of Kenai caught a 155.4-pound fish on June 1, good for fifth place.

Ruth Armstrong of Eagle River still leads the overall derby standings with a 306.4-pound catch landed May 31.

Dwight Cork of Anchorage landed a tagged fish June 3. The fish was sponsored by Alaska Adventure Fishing Charters in Homer.
