Pop quiz: What is a bumbershoot and do you need one to play golf? The answer is at the end ... be patient.
Wednesday's Men's Night saw a new name on our list of extolments. Bill Rolph beat everybody out for closest to the pin on No. 6. However, Mike Hollingsworth really made a showing with closest-to on No. 8, the long drive and a pure birdie. This man's a dynamo ... sign him up.
Thanks to all participants, the second annual Altman Rogers Charity Tournament was a great success. The winning foursome representing Soldotna Rotary placed first, while Jay's painting came in second followed by Peak Oilfield Service for third. Net proceeds for the tourney will go to Peninsula Food Bank and Soldotna Rotary good folks doing good work.
Sunday Couples once again proved my earlier prediction: wives and husbands and golf do indeed mix. Myrna and Pat Cowan came through with low gross, while low net went to Tanya and Tom Boedeker. Next encounter is scheduled for June 29. Whata'ya scared of?
Drum roll please: Our very own Tony Azzara scored a respectful 75 in Palmer this last Monday to win the Alaska Junior Golf Association tournament. Does he know how proud we all are of him?
Tuesday Morning Ladies and our trusty Senior Leaguers got together this last week for nine. They pretty much looked like a roomful of wet laundry afterward, but the rain was no deterrent to Chiya Bazan scoring closest-to on No. 6, nor to Ray Hamby for hanging in there with longest putt.
We here at Birch Ridge Golf Course would like to publicly thank L&J Enterprises for their unstinting help recently in the initial refurbishing of our driving range. Great bunch of people out there.
Twenty-nine young beginning golfers turned out for the start of our Junior Golf Program clinics here at Birch Ridge. There's quite a large crowd. See, all my pleading did not come to naught.
Reminders: June 14 is the June Scramble. It's not too late to sign up, so what are you waiting for ... sunshine? Oh, please.
June 21 is the date of our annual Rotary Midnight Scramble hosted by Sam Best every year since I don't know when. It's great fun and you really should be in on it. Call our pro shop to sign up; better yet, come into the pro shop and sign up ... we like to see your happy faces.
