Small businesses topic of chamber meeting

Today's Kenai Chamber of Commerce meeting will feature Mark Gregory of the Small Business Development Center. The meeting will begin at noon at the Old Town Village Restaurant in Kenai.

Rocket academy planned

The Challenger Learning Center is holding a rocket academy for students starting today through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $150. For more information, call 283-2000.

Space education offered for teachers

Kenai Peninsula College and the Challenger Learning Center are offering a one-credit class for teachers on space education Thursday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. The fee is $87 and space is limited to 30 teachers. To reserve a spot, call 283-2000.

Barbecue fund-raiser slated

The Sterling Senior Center is holding its 11th annual barbecue Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. The cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children and $30 for a family. For more information, call 262-6808.

Races planned for weekend

Kenai Peninsula Racing Lions are hosting the state motocross races Saturday and Sunday at the end of the Soldotna airport. Sign-up begins at 8 a.m. each day with races following. The fee is $20 per registration. It is $5 for adults at the gate; children are free.

Benefit scheduled for Sunday

There will be a benefit to help Sandra Shilson pay for medical expenses related to her cancer treatment. The clam bake, spaghetti feed and Chinese auction will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday. Donations will be accepted.

Interest sought for Head Start program

Kenaitze Head Start is looking for interest in an Alaska Family Development Training and Credentialing Program. The program is $472 and credit can be earned toward a degree from University of Alaska Fairbanks.

Elderhostel to be held in Homer

The Kachemak Bay Campus of Kenai Peninsula College will hold its annual Elderhostel program July 22-28 in Homer. The program covers the history and culture of Kachemak Bay and is for adults over 55.
