ANCHORAGE (AP) Federal help could be available for approximately 40 seafood processing workers in Yakutat, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
Workers at Sitka Sound Seafoods from Jan. 21, 2002, to May 13, 2005, that are laid off or reduced to part-time may be eligible for extra benefits and services. The affected North Pacific Processors, Inc. workers produce processed salmon.
The Labor Department found that the company's major customers increased their reliance on imported fresh, frozen and canned salmon, causing declines at the Yakutat facility.
Workers may apply for benefits at a state employment service office.
