The Kenai Watershed forum will be sponsoring workshops on willow identification and back yard birding.
On Thursday, local naturalist and author Dominique Collet will lead a workshop on identifying willows. Collet will discuss proper willows to use for riverbank restoration projects and more. A copy of his guide book, "Willows of Southcentral Alaska," will be distributed free of charge.
Anyone interested in participating should plan to meet in the Kenai Peninsula College parking lot at 9 a.m. Some agility will be required due to stairs along the trail.
On June 26, river guide and birder Ken Marlow will lead a workshop on identifying birds by sight and sound. Attendees should bring binoculars and expect to see a variety of warblers, waterfowl and shorebirds. If time permits, Marlow also will lead a tour of the riverbank and side hill at Bing's Landing.
Anyone interested in participating should plan to meet at Marlow's on the Kenai at 5:30 p.m. Call 260-5449 for directions.
All Kenai Watershed Forums are free and open to the public. For more information on the forum's summer program series, call 260-5449 or visit the Web site at www.kenaiwatershed.org.
