Laila Hazel Korpi of Sparta Location, Minn., died Thursday, June 10, 2004, in St. Michael's Health Care Center in Virginia. She was 82.
The funeral service will be held at 11 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert, Minn. The Rev. Eric Lemonholm will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Gilbert Cemetery.
Mrs. Korpi was born July 11, 1921, in Eveleth, Minn., to Sakri and Hilda (Moilanen) Makinen. She was a 1939 honors graduate of Gilbert High School.
She married Alec Korpi on Sept. 28, 1940, in Eveleth. She was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Mrs. Korpi served as a Sparta Election Board judge for many years and was a member of United In Christ Lutheran Church in Eveleth. Her pastimes included knitting and being an avid fan of basketball and hockey.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Korpi is survived by her husband, Alec; daughters, Karen Soyring of Virginia, Becky (Ed) Moeglein of Soldotna, and Donna Draze of Mountain Iron, Minn.; brother, Lawrence "Mac" (Judy) Makinen of Blair, Neb.; grandchildren, Clint (Kristie) Moeglein of Midland, Texas, Kari (Manson Brown) Soyring of McGregor, Minn., Steve (Vivian) Moeglein of Odenton, Md., and Anthony Draze of Mountain Iron; great-granddaughter, Emma Moeglein of Midland; sister-in-law, Mary Korpi of Virginia; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
