Health center directors to meet

The Central Peninsula Health Center Inc. board of directors will meet at 6 p.m. today at Salamatof Center at 150 . Willow St. in Kenai. It is open to the public.

Quilters group plans session

Stitches of Love (quilters that make quilts for foster children) will have a sewing session from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the former courthouse in Kenai. It is open to the public.

Donations of children's fabrics may be dropped off that day. For more information, call Jane Avery at 260-9005.

nutrition classes scheduled

Beginning Tuesday, the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank will host a eight-week series of nutrition classes titled "Harvesting for your Health." The session ends Aug. 2.

Colleen Sonnevil of the Cooperative Extension Services office will instruct on how to harvest area plants and fish.

Annual luau gets cooking

The Soldotna Senior Citizens Center will host its annual luau at 5 p.m. Saturday at the center. A Hawaiian menu is planned. Entertainment, door prizes and a raffle for two tickets for a bear flightseeing trip are planned.

Tickets are by advance purchase. The cost of admission is $18 for adults and $10 for children ages 12 and under. For more information, call 262-2322.

Blood donations needed

The Blood Bank of Alaska is in critical need of blood donations of O negative and positive, B positive and AB plasma. It currently has less than a one-day supply.

The blood bank is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday in Suite 212 in the Blazy Mall in Soldotna.

Cheerleader tryouts, workshops set

Workshops and tryouts for the fall Soldotna High School cheerleading squad are scheduled at the school. Workshops will begin at 10 a.m. June 20 and 21, and tryouts will be at 10 a.m. June 22. Participants need to present a copy of their current physical in order to participate in the workshop and tryouts.

Used book sale schedule

The Soldotna Public Library will host a used book sale from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. July 23 at the library.
