Steak fundraiser set to serve

The Sterling Senior Center will host a steak dinner fundraiser from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the center. Steak, potatoes, vegetables, rolls, salad, dessert and beverages will be served. The cost is $12.50 per person. For more information, call 262-6808.

Kenai River to be discussed

The Friday Community Dialogue series continues at 7 p.m. today at the Kenai River Center on Funny River Road in Soldotna. The topic will be "The Future of the Kenai River -- Are We Doing a Good Enough Job?" A community potluck will begin at 6:30 p.m. Community Dialogues purpose is to bring people in the community together in safe forums for listening, speaking and learning. Fish totes available

Cook Inlet Salmon Brand will distribute insulated fish totes to area H permit holders from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Pacific Star Seafoods and Kenai River Seafoods

To qualify for a tote participants must present their area H Salmon permit and be a member of the Kenai Wild program. Membership forms will be available. For more information, e-mail fvannie@alaska.net.

Vets plan garage, bake sale

The AmVets Post No. 4 in Soldotna will hold a garage and bake sale fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the AmVets property across from Kenai River Nursery on Kalifornsky Beach Road (look for the signs).

Donations are being accepted and are tax deductible. Items may be dropped off at the AmVets center in the Red Diamond Center or call to have donations picked up. Profits will be used to purchase building supplies for the group. Items need to be dropped off by today.

Driver safety class offered

AARP will hold a driver safety class from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Kenai River Center, 514 Funny River Road. The cost will be $10 for materials. The class is open to the public. An AARP member may bring a guest participant at no additional charge.

Spaghetti, auction benefit set

A spaghetti benefit dinner will be held for the family of Ayden-Star Enders, who died in an accident June 1. Dinner will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday at J-Bar-B at Mile 101 of the Sterling Highway in Kasilof. A Chinese auction will follow at 6 p.m. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 12 and under.

Flag ceremony planned

The Kenai Elks Lodge No. 2425 and Soldotna Elks Lodge No. 2706 will perform a Flag Day ceremony, with a presentation of flags and flag history at 6:30 p.m. at the Peninsula Oilers ballpark in Kenai. For more information, call Mary at 283-7514.

Raffle to benefit cancer patient

A Kenai-ready, 50-horsepower, four-stroke Yamaha longshaft motor is being raffled off to raise funds to benefit Marcus Yamada, who is undergoing treatment for leukemia at Seattle Children's Hospital.

Tickets are $50 each, and only 300 tickets will be sold. The drawing will be Sunday at Bridges in Soldotna.
