Volunteer mission teams come to Alaska

The United Methodist Church of the New Convenant will host two Volunteers in Mission teams from Louisiana starting Saturday with a second team arriving June 21. The teams will paint the church on the Kenai Spur Highway and the church parsonage on Bluff Street. Part of the two teams also will remodel and update the bathroom in the parsonage.

Part of the teams are from Trinity United Methodist Church in Ruston with seven different churches in Louisiana being represented by the rest.

PCC celebrates fathers

Peninsula Christian Center will celebrate Father's Day at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the center behind The Salvation Army on the Kenai Spur Highway in Soldotna. The theme will be "Super Dad's Day" and feature a display of classic hot rod cars and motorcycles.

Dads will receive a gift that includes Perry Flys and tickets to the Peninsula Oilers versus California Bears game Monday. The Sunday message will be "What's a Father to do?"

Bible school planned

Soldotna Bible Chapel will host a vacation Bible school with an Amazon Expedition theme from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through June 20. Children ages 4 through grade six may participate in songs, crafts, games, goodies and dramas. They also may discover the "Seven Cs of history.

Echo Lake Bible study ongoing

A King James Bible study group meets at 7 p.m. Thursdays on East Echo Lake Road. For more information, call Jep Hensen at 262-3509.

Nikiski Aglow meeting set

Nikiski Aglow meets at 10 a.m. Wednesdays at North Star United Methodist Church at Mile 25.5 of the Kenai Spur Highway. Women may attend Bible study, prayer and worship. For more information, call 776-8022.

Clothes Quarters open

The Clothes Quarters is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays at 225 S. Spruce St. behind Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Kenai. The store sells clothes and free trade coffee.

Nikiski Bible study under way

Nikiski Nazarene Ladies offers the Beth Moore Bible study, Living Beyond Yourself, from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturdays. Women and teen girls may attend. For more information, call 776-8022 or 776-5421.

Grief support group to meet

Soldotna United Methodist Church conducts a life, love and loss support group from noon to 1 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of the month at the church at 158 S. Binkley St. Any type of loss is open for discussion in the group.
